The morning brew is bitter
Brimming with painful news
The images are hard to watch
But still we can’t refuse
We try to feel their anguish
To understand their pain
Mount pictures of a smiling face
In blue and yellow frames
We paint bright yellow flowers
Against a pale blue sky
That show our solidarity
With those who wait to die
How can we stand to witness
This vicious hand of hate
Destroy entire lifetimes
As if it was their fate
If we are all one people
Protecting freedom’s call
Attacks on the defenseless
Are crimes against us all
We have a moral duty
To be that shining light
And muster up the courage
To fight for what is right
