Into the Dark Days We Go

Into the Dark Days We Go - Rondym Kiefe

Into the dark days we go
Winter unveils a cruel show
The fall leaves dead across the land
Lives cut short of days well planned
By a bitter wind left to blow

Season when night steals the day
Light that gives life hides away
Each soul these days have come to steal
Leaves trails of broken hearts to heal
The holes in their lives here to stay

As daylight shrinks life retreats
Winds of fear empty the streets
When shadows reach their tallest day
The sun will melt their height away
In seasons that nature repeats

When life at last reclaims its place
We’ll stop to count each missing face
With burdens of those who remain
To count loss and process the pain
Then measure all they can’t replace

But like all things these days will pass
Life will return in springtime grass
Perhaps this time with lessons learned
From loved ones who won’t be returned
New stories for the endless class
