Eating a Pomegranate in the Shower

Eating a Pomegranate in the Shower - Rondym Kiefe

One crystal clear morning
On a warm day of rest
I strolled through the garden
Beneath the endless blue
I was shuffling my feet
In the bristled green blades
When my eyes were enticed
By a strange something new

A young tree maturing
Had topped the tall fences
The green sprawl of summer
Where nature’s fruit is spun
Showcasing a treasure
That begged to be taken
A red pomegranate
That glistened in the sun

I cupped it in my hands
Entranced by its beauty
Fighting the temptation
To gorge my starving lips
No not here not like this
This feast should be special
Not a cascade of stains
Even time can’t eclipse

I hurried to my head
To hatch a clever plan
That forfeit no indulgence
And washed away remorse
Then stepped into the stream
And bowed my troubled mind
Beneath the cleansing water
That pardons any course

Stripped back the sturdy peel
To seeds of ruby red
That sparkled like gemstones
Just begging to be sprung
I filled one hand complete
Then tilted back my head
Dumped the pile in my mouth
And pressed them with my tongue

The flavor so distinct
One taste turned to craving
Craving turned to frenzy
Juice squirting everywhere
And when the rush had passed
I stopped to catch my breath
The walls were all spattered
Defiance filled the air

I held the nozzle high
And starting from the top
Washed away the droplets
Before the stains could set
Then watched the swirling water
Chase color down the drain
All evidence dispatched
No loose ends to regret
