Sometimes it’s too much all this sorrow and grief
I find time away for a moment’s relief
Just knowing what’s coming weighs too much to bear
The things we can’t keep in a world so unfair
I switch off the channels and turn on my head
To make a safe place far removed from the dread
My treasures are memories kept in my mind
Each equally precious they’re one of a kind
I plowed an escape path called reverie row
Through tall fields of flowers where happy plants grow
And hummed the sweet melody I alone know
The soundtrack I wrote for the unending show
Life’s colorful tapestry holds joy and pain
The pictures we gather that make up our brain
Each snapshot a moment no other can see
From volumes of beauty known only to me
I know I can’t stay here for more than a spell
The waking light calls like a deafening bell
But soon I’ll return with both eyes swollen shut
And smile like a madman whose strings have been cut
