Shattered Dream

Shattered Dream

Dumpster diving diva
Lives in a cardboard mansion
Patchouli oil paradise
Hidden in the trees
She found a dress today
That fits her just right
A colorful mosaic
Of wrinkles and stains
She picked some flowers
To garnish her hair
A sprawl of tangles
Dyed blonde by the sun
Then painted her nails
With discarded polish
And added some sparkle
To her filthy bare feet
Her fingers are leathered
Hung heavy with jewels
Counterfeit gemstones
On gold plastic rings
Most days she sits there
On her favorite bench
Waiting for her lover
Now many years gone
Sometimes I see her
Giddy and smiling
Talking and laughing
With his empty seat
And it makes me smile
To see her so happy
And know how she was
Before that tragic day
